Vic: Cycle lobby group pushes for roundabout ban

Australia's largest cycling organisation will push for the abolishment of roundabouts
on popular cycling routes with the launch of an education program.

Lobby group Bicycle Victoria, will today launch a program aiming to put an end to roundabouts
on local streets by providing safer solutions.

Bicycle Victoria general manager HARRY BARBER says five per cent of all cycling casualties
happen at roundabouts.

He says 40 per cent of all injuries sustained by cyclists in roundabout accidents are
caused by cars hitting bikes already in the roundabout.

He says Bicycle Victoria has developed a range of traffic management systems that are
safer for pedestrians and cyclists.
