STUDY: PACS SPENT $19M ON ELECTION.(CAPITAL REGION)

ALBANY -- Political action committees shelled out $19 million last year trying to influence state elections in New York, with just 16 of 452 PACs accounting for 40 percent of the spending, a coalition of groups seeking campaign finance reform reported Wednesday.

The coalition noted the top-spending PACs, dubbed the Sweet 16, distributed 27 percent of their $7.6 million in donations to the Democratic majority in the state Assembly and another 27 percent to the Republican majority in the state Senate.
