ALBANY MAN DENIES SOFTWARE CONSPIRACY.(CAPITAL REGION)

An Albany man accused of selling more than $2 million of counterfeit computer software pleaded innocent Monday to a sealed indictment charging him with conspiracy and trademark counterfeiting.

Between May and October 1999, Mario Stacchini, 31, served as a hub in a cross-country network to counterfeit and distribute Microsoft Office software and other Microsoft products, according to the indictment. Associates in Ohio, California, Pennsylvania and Illinois shipped the goods, with phony packaging, to Stacchini, who then sold the products to customers as far away as the United Kingdom, state prosecutors say.
