SA: Child detainee disappointed at court ruling

A child asylum seeker says he's disappointed and can't understand why a court refusedto release him from an Australian detention centre.

The Family Court yesterday refused to release the 15-year-old, his brother and threesisters from the Baxter detention centre in South Australia's north.

Family Court Justice STEVEN STRICKLAND rejected an application to release the siblingsdespite earlier finding a case existed that their detention was unlawful.

The five children -- who cannot be identified -- have been refused refugee status andbeen earmarked for deportation.

The children's mother has also been refused refugee status and faces deportation whiletheir father is appealing against rejection of his visa application.

The eldest of the children accepted yesterday's decision calmly.

The refugee advocate who told the boy of the court's decision, ROBERT MARSHALL says, the boy was disappointed but very calm.

Mr MARSHALL says the boy fears death if he's deported.
